We have learned that the all-new Toyota Tundra will debut on February 9, 2017 at the Chicago Auto Show. We have no press releases or confirmations but this is what we are hearing about.
We are hearing that there will be subtle changes to the exterior. There is no reason to believe there will be any wholesale changes to the outside appearance. There should be some new designs for the headlights and front bumper along with the grill. This should add to the toughness look factor. The inside should have improvements to storage capability and materials. They should find ways to improve the materials. The rear seat will now fold up instead of reclining, so maybe you will see some hooks and cubbies for creative storage.
We also are hearing that the 2018 offering will feature the 8-speed transmission you see in today’s Land Cruiser. This should be an easy adder for the automaker. We either look for them to improve on the towing or fuel economy but it would be up to the design engineers. We hope it will be on the fuel economy. We think that can be done by using their D-4’s technology. It will improve HP and torque as well as keeping the cylinders cleaner from carbon buildup.
They should top it off with a host of technology improvements like new IP setup, new apps for the infotainment system and a new radio head unit or change the existing one with added power. We would also like to see more USB ports. Also don’t expect them to be light on safety features.
We can’t wait until February. For more info, come by Hixson Toyota of Leesville 11981 Lake Charles Highway Leesville, LA or give us a call at 337-239-3434 today!
Our primary concern is the ulitmate satisfaction of our customers, today and in the future. We are not asking you to give us your business, we are asking you to give us the opportunity to EARN your business.

2017 Toyota Rav4
Toyota has expanded the availability of advanced safety features including autonomous braking to eight of its 10 RAV4 models. Mid-range GXL variants have also been upgraded with the addition of satellite navigation as standard, along with Toyota Link connected mobility and digital (DAB+) radio.
The safety technology is available as an option for the first time on automatic GX variants while remaining optional on GXL and standard on top-of-the-line Cruiser. Buyers of automatic petrol GXL variants who select the safety pack can also specify dual-tone paint that adds a contrasting silver accent to the bumpers, wheel arches, door sills and side mirrors.
As part of the RAV4 changes, Cruiser all-wheel-drive (AWD) petrol and diesel variants gain the convenience of ambient lighting in the foot well and a two-position memory function for the leather-accented driver’s seat. RAV4’s latest changes follow a substantial update late last year that included sleeker and more dynamic exterior styling, refreshed interiors, Euro 5 engines and the adoption of trailer sway control.
The suite of high-tech safety features includes a forward collision warning system” that can automatically apply the car’s brakes, even if the driver takes no action. It also comes with active cruise control, automatic high beam, lane departure alert with steering assist, rain-sensing wipers, front parking sensors and a sway warning system to aid when towing.
Petrol AWD variants are all fitted with a six-speed multi-mode sequential-shift automatic transmission. Diesel AWD RAV4 is offered with manual or automatic transmissions for the GX and is automatic-only for GXL and Cruiser.

Toyota to make hybrid RAV4
Toyota plans to use the New York Auto Show to introduce a natural extension to its crossover line -- a hybrid version of the RAV4.
Toyota already has a Highlander hybrid, which runs on both electricity and its gas engine. An all-electric plug-in version of the RAV4 was dropped after it was announced last year that Tesla would no longer be supplying the batteries.
For now, Toyota is only showing a hint of the look of the new RAV4. It makes its debut next week.
The new RAV4 is keeping with Toyota's pledge to extend hybrid technology across its line. Because it's a compact SUV, there's a little more space inside to pack in suitcase-sized hybrid batteries than would be found in a sedan. And Toyota is banking that there are plenty of eco-minded families willing to pay a little more for a hybrid in order to save some gas.
While Toyota is known for hybrid version of its cars, it has none at present among its bigger family haulers. An electric plug-in version of the Highlander, done in conjunction with Tesla, is no longer part of the lineup.

Toyota Tundra: American Made.
The Toyota Tundra is the most refined, over-engineered, secure-handling and powerful pick up in its class. Though designed by a Japanese automotive manufacturer headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan, most of the vehicle is actually American manufactured! The new chrome grille featured on the beautiful Tundra was designed by Toyota Calty Studios in California. The various engines the different versions of the truck has to offer such as the 4.0 liter, 270 horse power V-6, the 4.6 liter, 310 horse power V-8, and the 5.7 liter, 381 horse power V-8, were all manufactured in Alabama.
Also, the transmissions included in the 2014 model of the Toyota Tundra were made in North Carolina. Though revenue from the vehicle sales goes directly to Japan, through purchasing the Toyota Tundra, you are indirectly supporting American jobs on American soil. “The Tundra is by percentages of content among the most American-made of full-size trucks.” says the Wall Street Journal. And, while other major car companies tend to fudge numbers about their towing capacities, Toyota uses a series of repeated tests to verify a certain towing capacity per model. In 2011, Toyota adopted the SAE J2807 towing standard.
Along with being mostly American manufactured and providing customers with real and reliable information about towing capacity, the CrewMax Limited 4x4 Toyota Tundra can go 0-60 in 9.5 seconds, has an EPA fuel economy of 17 miles per gallon highway and has a verifiable towing capacity of 9,000 pounds.

Toyota's most rugged Land Cruiser is back in Japan
Published August 26, 2014
Associated Press
Source: Fox News
Toyota Motor Corp. is bringing back the Land Cruiser 70 in Japan, catering to nostalgic demand for the rugged off-roader that's favored for challenging terrains and as an aid agency vehicle in disaster zones.
The 3.6 million yen ($35,000) Land Cruiser 70, the toughest of the Land Cruiser models, arrives at Japanese dealers Monday. But it's on sale for only a year, with planned production of 200 a month.
Japan sales were discontinued in 2004, but fans have long wanted the model back because of its fun-to-drive features.
"If you ever have to entrust your life with a car, I'd choose the Land Cruiser," chief engineer Sadayoshi Koyari told reporters at an event for car fans in Tokyo.
The 70 model first went on sale in 1984, and it's still sold in the Middle East, Africa, Australia and other places, averaging 6,400 vehicles a month in sales.
Its durability is based on its ladder-frame chassis and suspension, according to Toyota, the world's top automaker. It's designed for places where a breakdown is not just a hassle but also possibly fatal.
But Japanese fans have long wanted the model back since it was discontinued here in 2004.
Masahiro Terada, 67, a Kyoto lumber merchant and fan of the Land Cruiser for decades, heads a network of about 50 Japanese Land Cruiser owners, who gather at unusual spots such as bumpy volcanic areas near Mount Fuji and rivers in southwestern Kyushu, to test the vehicle's off-road features.
"A Land Cruiser is a toy for a big boy, those adults who never grow up," he said with a laugh, vowing to drive a Land Cruiser until the day he dies.
The U.N. and the Red Cross use the Land Cruiser for relief efforts in disaster zones, making it a model Toyota is proud to claim as part of its brand.
The Land Cruiser is Toyota's longest-running nameplate, with a cumulative 7.9 million units produced worldwide.
Its long history means there are plentiful parts from models sold around the world, including in emerging economies where easy and reliable maintenance is crucial.
The comeback offering, which is also available in a 3.5 million yen ($34,000) pickup version, boasts up-to-date safety and smart-key features, a 4.0 liter V6 engine and five-speed manual transmission.

Plano is putting a lot of money down to take Toyota home
By WENDY HUNDLEY AND TERRY BOX
Staff Writers The Dallas Morning News
Published: 10 May 2014 11:32 PM
When Plano rolls out the welcome mat to Toyota this week,
officials will be offering the automaker the largest economic incentive package
in the city’s history.
The deal includes a $6.75 million grant that’s linked to
developing a 1 million-square-foot corporate campus, transferring or creating
up to 3,650 jobs, and making use of Plano hotels during the relocation period.
The Plano City Council will vote Monday on the package that
also includes creation of a 100-acre reinvestment zone on the northwest corner
of Legacy and Headquarters drives, and a 10-year, 50 percent abatement on real
and business personal property taxes.
Many experts say deals like this are common, but some are
beginning to question whether cities are getting their money’s worth.
In the past, Plano has attracted other major companies such
as J.C. Penney, FedEx and Pizza Hut with lucrative offers, but no deal comes
close to the proposed package for Toyota.
While the city’s offer is generous, “I don’t look at it
through a prism of what the incentives represent,” said Sally Bane, Plano’s
executive director of economic development. “I look at it as an amazing
opportunity for this community.”
Others agree that Toyota’s consolidation of three divisions
in Plano is a move that will reverberate throughout the area.
“Plano, as a site for doing business, has captured national
attention,” said Terry Clower, director of the Center for Economic Development
and Research at the University of North Texas. “That matters in your ability to
attract other firms.”
Clower said economic development offers are difficult to
draft because cities don’t know what other deals are on the table. “You have to
offer these things, and you don’t know if Toyota would have come in any case,”
he said.
N. Texas competition
Experts say that Plano’s economic incentive package is not
unusual among North Texas cities, which often compete to attract companies.
“That’s fairly typical of what a lot of cities offer — even
for much smaller deals,” said Jim Gandy, who heads the Frisco Economic
Development Corp.
Toyota’s property tax break is less than what the city of
Irving offered to lure 7-Eleven’s corporate headquarters from Dallas.
Irving is giving the developer of 7-Eleven’s headquarters a
more than 80 percent property tax break for 13 years. The 7-Eleven offices will
house about 1,250 workers.
Irving is also providing sales tax incentives to the
company.
Ten-year, 50 percent property tax abatements, like the one
offered to Toyota, are fairly common.
Plano’s total assessed property values are projected to be
$28.8 billion for the 2014-15 fiscal year, according to the city’s three-year
financial forecast.
“Plano probably won’t miss the revenue,” said Bernard
Weinstein, adjunct professor at SMU’s Cox School of Business. “It’s really not
that much for the return to the state and the city.”
And Toyota’s move could attract other employers.
“This is a really big deal in terms of jobs, prestige and
what may follow — suppliers and vendors,” Weinstein said.
Still, he wonders if such largesse is really necessary.
“Should taxpayers be giving tax breaks to the most
profitable and the largest car manufacturer in the world?” Weinstein said.
“That’s icing on the cake.”
Clower said an economic development incentive grant of
almost $7 million is “impressive but it’s not out of line with the number of
jobs that will be created.”
Other auto moves
In addition to Plano’s incentive package, the state will
kick in $40 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund. On the whole, that appears
modest in comparison with what others have offered for similar auto-industry
moves in the past.
In 2006, when Nissan decided to relocate its headquarters
from Gardena, Calif., to Franklin, Tenn., the state provided a $197 million
relocation assistance package.
Nissan moved 1,300 jobs to Franklin.
In addition to the relocation assistance, the city of
Franklin spent $15 million to purchase a 50-acre parcel for Nissan’s
headquarters and then leased it to the automaker.
Also, Nissan got a $5,000-a-year tax credit for 20 years for
each new job created by the relocation.
Clint Brewer, a spokesman for Tennessee’s Economic and
Community Development Department, said the state had not attempted to determine
the overall economic impact of the move.
“We don't do economic impact studies on projects as long as
they create the jobs they are supposed to and make the capital investments
promised,” Brewer said. “And Nissan has always met its commitment.”
In 2011, local, state and federal governments gave
Volkswagen $577 million in incentives to build a $1 billion assembly plant in
Chattanooga, Tenn.
The plant employs 2,000 people.
Moreover, when Toyota selected San Antonio as the site for a
new full-size pickup truck plant in 2006, the state provided $133 million in
incentives.
The package included $27 million to train the plant’s 2,000
full-time workers, $47 million in waived fees and phased-in taxes, and $14
million for land.
Local officials also offered Toyota $34 million in school-
and hospital-district tax abatements, but the automaker declined to take them,
saying it wanted to contribute to the local economy.
Gov. Rick Perry maintained that the incentives given to the
truck plant will yield an 18.3 percent return over 10 years.
Toyota expected the new truck plant to build 150,000
full-size Tundra pickups a year — a goal yet to be met.
The company sold 112,732 Tundras last year.
It has added production of Tacoma midsize pickups to San
Antonio to keep the plant operating at full capacity, and last year said it is
considering expanding the plant.
Staff writers Steve Brown and Matthew Watkins contributed to
this report.
AT A GLANCE: Other incentive plans
The Plano City Council is scheduled to vote on a Toyota
economic incentive package that’s the largest in the city’s history.
Here are some other cash incentives approved in recent years
by the Plano City Council to attract, expand or relocate businesses to the
city:
February 2014 — FedEx Office and Print Services receives
$1.6 million to relocate from Dallas
July 2012 — Plano provides $4 million to Tollway 121 to
build a new $53 million hotel
March 2012 — Ericsson receives $1.9 million to expand and
retain 500 employees
November 2010 — Encana Oil and Gas receives $2.4 million to
relocate to Plano from Denver
November 2009 — Pizza Hut receives $2.1 million to relocate
from Addison
